Some much need it updates

After a large period of inactivity, some much need it updates are on the way. Among others, fix the comments so that slashes and other special characters get displayed, Fix the displayed sizes of the photos in varius views and add a couple more resolutions, that are better suited to use by mobile phones. The entire site will also be "mobile friendly" so you can also browse the posts and add comments.

TwitXL is a sponsor at the Athens MediaCamp 2

TwitXL is one of the sponsors of the Athens MediaCamp  2
Will be covering the event with live photos and probably do a demo at the democamp of the new features in TwitXL (yes we do have some 'hidden' features.)
If you happen to be in the area (or want to spend a nice weekend in Athens as it looks like the weather would be great), come at the mediacamp as there are several interesting events and presentations that will take place.

We have a new logo !

With the help of E-miles Creations we now have a new logo!
Going through the process of desinging a logo a few times in the past, i can say this was the most easy and un-eventfull time.
Hope that people like it and get's the message through.

TwitXL updates and roadmap

It's been a busy week, working on several new features and fixing various issues people have stumbled upon. So let's start with the new features

Comments
We have added the ability to leave comments on a photo uploaded to TwitXL. The comments are also send as reply to the poster of the photo.

Geo location map on the main image page.
If location was added to the photo during the upload, this is also displayed when you are at the main photo page. Before the geo location info and map for a photo was only available at the Public Timeline and Popular listings.

Image rotation
You can now rotate the image in the main image page. Rotation is done in 90 degree steps. Done also some work a way to 'automagicaly' rotate pictures to the correct position, as it looks like several phones take the photos in landscape and not in portrait mode.

Things working on but not yet available.

Submit photos by email
This will be the next major feature to add in TwitXL. You will be able to submit photos to TwitXL via email. The format I have tested (and plan to use) is that the subject of the email will contain the Twitter username, password and comments and the image will be an attachment. This will allow all emails to be send to a common account and not having to create unique email accounts for TwitXL users (I think people are fed up having to juggle all these email accounts from various services)

API
A early version of the API is done but still needs testing before it gets released to the public. This will be a major step forward as it will allow developers of Twitter clients to *easily* interface with TwitXL.

Submit photos by mms.
This was an idea from @Kcorax during the last OpenCoffee in Athens. I have done some preliminary work and results were interesting. Planning to work on this a bit more next week.

TwitXL mobile is now availiable

You can now post and view photos using your mobile's web browser
Just type http://mobile.twitxl.com as the URL. It's been tested only on WindowsCE browser at the moment.
Would love to hear from iPhone and Nokia users @twitxl on twitter or send an email at dev@twitxl.com.

TwitXL is now registered with Twitter

Today we had some good news.
Twitter has registered the TwitXL application and now all posts from TwitXL will be identified as "from TwitXL" when you post an update to your status.

Also there is no rate limit anymore, so we will soon be accepting more testers.

We are in limited Alpha

Well the cat is out of the bag.
After a couple of weeks of development, an early, bleeding edge, alpha release of the TwitXL is out.
Currently only photo uploads work, but more will follow soon.

If you upload any photos please note that before we go into official Beta, we plan to have the database re-organized, so things might get lost.

In any case i would like to hear from you, so if you find a bug, want a feature added, have a praise or rant, follow @twitxl on twitter or send an email at dev@twitxl.com.
